We embrace a student-centred, learning-focused approach to education. We provide students with six types of learning experiences: exploring the Christian faith, acquiring foundational knowledge, conducting fieldwork and research, developing life skills, serving the community, and participating in sports and the arts. These experiences foster balanced spiritual, intellectual, emotional, physical and artistic development, helping students realise the ideal of lifelong learning.
(1) Language Policy
We place great emphasis on developing students’ biliterate and trilingual abilities in written Chinese and English, and spoken Cantonese, Putonghua and English.
At junior secondary level, English is used to teach parts of the Computer Studies curriculum and practical Home Economics lessons. Relevant English vocabulary is also taught in Integrated Humanities. Depending on students’ abilities, Mathematics and Integrated Science are taught in English in selected classes.
Beyond regular lessons, we provide English reading during morning reading sessions in odd-numbered months and a peer reading programme at lunchtime. We also organise a varied English activity each month, including drama, competitions, games and assemblies. English musicals are actively promoted to create a rich English learning environment. During the summer holidays, we arrange English speech and drama courses and English camps to further develop students’ English proficiency.
Another distinctive feature of our school is the use of Putonghua to teach Chinese Language at junior secondary level.
(2) Learning and Teaching Strategies
We place great emphasis on effective learning and teaching, fostering a positive learning culture and developing students’ ability to learn independently. Our school is well equipped, and teachers make extensive use of information technology and adapt their teaching to students’ needs, creating an enjoyable learning environment.
Our student-centred curriculum combines formal and non-formal learning. At junior secondary level, we offer an integrated humanities curriculum, project learning, modular courses and learning programmes beyond the classroom. These support our goals of life-wide learning, diverse learning experiences and whole-person development.
At senior secondary level, flexible subject combinations allow students to choose subjects according to their interests and abilities. Elective subjects include Chinese History, History, Economics, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Business, Accounting and Financial Studies, Information and Communication Technology, Physical Education, and Visual Arts.
Some Secondary 5 and 6 students take Hotel Operations courses offered by the Vocational Training Council and Applied Psychology courses offered by the Lingnan Institute of Further Education. Our senior secondary arts education programme offers courses in video filming and editing, musical theatre, stage lighting, street dance, graffiti art, pottery and electronic keyboard playing.
Teachers assess students objectively through a range of methods at different stages of learning. These include assignments, classroom performance, peer assessment, subject tests in various formats, uniform tests and examinations. We use both continuous and summative assessment to help students understand their learning progress. Summative assessment takes place once each term, twice a year.
(3) Character Development and Life Planning
We actively promote our Purposeful Life Programme. Through junior secondary Life Education, guidance activities and a diverse range of further study and careers guidance experiences at senior secondary level, we help students set goals and prepare for further education and/or employment.
Our ‘Nurturing Kei To Students’ programme develops the qualities of respect, self-respect and diligence in learning. The programme sets behavioural indicators for each quality, with assessments provided by parents, teachers and fellow students. Students who meet the targets receive recognition and rewards. We encourage students to develop positive attitudes and set their own goals and direction, fostering independent learning.
We also schedule daily morning reading sessions, set subject-specific reading targets according to each class’s needs, regularly recommend good books, and organise book fairs and talks by authors.
(4) Student Support
We are committed to building students’ confidence in learning. Our after-school study club, 五「升」級同學會, provides a quiet environment for independent study and revision. With peer support and guidance from tutors, students develop good study habits.
Our educational psychologist, school-based social workers, and discipline and guidance teachers provide a range of services to support students’ growth and development.
Students remain on campus for lunch, during which we organise a variety of activities. We also offer a wide range of extracurricular activities to develop students’ interests and potential.
Each year, we arrange study tours to destinations such as New Zealand, Taiwan and South Korea. These broaden students’ horizons and provide opportunities to interact with people from other places, helping them learn about and experience different cultures and ways of life.
